Here we show you a intriguing way of making a backpacking stove out of a tin can. This method is great for cooking food where a fire may not be allowed. And is a nice little project for your older children.
What you will need:
- An empty tin can – a short and wide tuna style can works best
- Corrugated cardboard
- A candle
- Matches or lighter to light the candle
- Pair of scissors
Firstly, you need to cut the cardboard to fit the can, so measure the height next to the cardboard and cut it up into same height strips.
Next roll the cardboard up so it fits neatly into the can.
Finally, melt wax over the cardboard to give the stove some fuel. The cardboard acts as a wick and lets the candle wax burn.
Test your stove, to make sure it works, when you need to you can load back up with cardboard or wax.
